What is Pigmentation?

Pigmentation can be described as the strange lightening (hypopigmentation) or blackening (hyperpigmentation) of the skin. The skin comprises cells called melanocytes that are responsible for creating melanin, the brown skin coloring pigment of the epidermis, and when these melanocytes are either absurdly dispersed or odd, it leads to pigmentation glitches.

What are the causes of pigmentation?

At some or the other stage in life, we all experience pigmentation issues that appear no matter what the skin color or ethnicity is. The skin would either become darker or lighter compared to normal in some parts. This mainly occurs because the skin produces either too little or too much melanin. Melanocytes are responsible for producing melanin and refer to the pigment color of your skin. Along with the hormones and exposure to the sun, hyperpigmentation can happen by the impairment of skin, like in the case of scars. Yet again, the condition is highly prevalent in people who have dark skin tones. The main reason for darkened skin areas, zones of discoloration, or brown spots is unprotected exposure to the sun. reasons include trauma, UVR exposure, hormonal, medicines or chemical substance and deficiency of Vitamin A and C, and scarcities and fatty acids. Other reasons for this skin condition are hasty skin diseases like psoriasis, dermatitis, and eczema.
